Good morning, Portland! We're going to have a high of 89 degrees today, the perfect temperature for plopping your child in a public splash pad. Here's some news to start your day:

On the Inside: Since we're nearly 2,000 miles from the Texas/Mexico border, it's easy to bump news about immigrant family separations to the mental back burner. I'm here to reminder you to pay attention. Here's an immigration lawyer explaining what exactly is going on at the border and why the new "zero tolerance" policy is different than the also-shitty immigration policies of the past. This is what it's like on the ground inside the child detention centers along the border, where kids "wait in a series of cages created by metal fencing."

On the Outside: Hundreds of people, including Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke (the guy running to unseat Ted Cruz) and Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy marched outside the new white tents on the US/Texas border where immigrant boys, separated by their families, are being held. It was one of many major protests held along the Texas border this weekend.

Close to Home: This isn't to say Oregon is not facing its own immigration crisis. On Saturday, Oregon members of Congress spoke outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Sheridan, Oregon, calling on ICE to allow the 123 adult detainees inside access to legal aid—a right the ACLU says they are being denied.

In Non-Immigration News... Real Earthquake!: A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Japan's Osaka region this morning, killing at least three people and injuring hundreds.

Fake Earthquake! Seismic activity was also record in Mexico City Sunday, but experts say it was an "artificial quake," probably caused by thousands of people jumping with joy as the Mexico soccer team made the winning goal in its World Cup match against Germany.

Queer Here: Portland's Pride festival and parade drew thousands downtown this weekend. Highlights: Hot, tired dogs in rainbow bandanas being carried by their owners and honky tonk dancing. The crowd was temporarily heckled by religious protesters—but police were quick to kick 'em out.

Ceasefire: The Oregonian/Oregon Live checks in on how the 2017 state law meant to disarm gun owners who show signs they might shoot themselves or someone else is working.

Yet: A man was found fatally shot on the Grant High School track Sunday morning. Police are investigating the incident as a murder.

Tha Carters: Beyonce and Jay-Z casually dropped a joint record this weekend, in the midst of their world tour. Of course, you can only listen to the whole album on Tidal, the music platform that people only use when this kind of shit happens. Here's the couple's first music video from the record, "Apeshit," feat. Louvre prancing.
