Calabash set for May 23-25 this year
The highly anticipated return of the Calabash Literary Festival, “the best likkle festival in the best likkle district in the
best likkle country in the world” is set for May 23-25, 2025, according to Jakes Hotel in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth.
The launch event takes place April 23 at Devon House East Lawn at 7:00 pm. Attendance is by invite only.
Founded in 2001 by novelist Colin Channer, poet Kwame Dawes, and producer Justine Henzell, Calabash is the longest-running literary festival in the Caribbean, offering a free, three-day programme of readings, discussions, and musical performances, set against the relaxed, beachfront backdrop of Treasure Beach.
But Calabash encompasses more than literature. The programmes embrace music — reggae, jazz, and folk music performances — all meant to create an immersive cultural experience.
Pop-up bookshops and local food vendors also contribute to a laid-back atmosphere.
More details regarding the roster of featured authors and performers will be available at the official website calabashfestival.org in coming weeks.
