Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly ordered a 'room full of underage girls' to dance, kiss and touch each other sexually in front of him and confiscated the passport of a sobbing 15-year-old 'slave' who refused to have sex with the billionaire financier, according to newly unsealed court filings.

Maxwell, who denies helping Epstein recruit and groom girls for sex, was also accused by Epstein's housekeeper of being at the pedophile's mansion in Florida where 100 girls came to provide him with $200 'sexual massages' over the course of a decade.

One  anonymous witness testified that Maxwell would 'call him and ask him to bring over young girls that she would provide to Epstein.'

Maxwell is currently in prison on federal sex trafficking charges. But the dozens of documents relate to Virginia Roberts' Florida lawsuit against Maxwell which was settled in 2017.

The documents were unsealed last night and include new details about her sex life and how she allegedly procured young girls for the pedophile.

Although the evidence comes from previously sealed interviews with Maxwell when she was sued for defamation by Roberts five years ago, it is sure to be on the FBI's radar.

One document among the 112 court documents, running into thousands of pages of evidence, claims that in 2004 Maxwell left a message for her on-off boyfriend Epstein that a girl, aged 14 at the time according to prosecutors, was 'available on Tuesday' and told him he had 'no one for tomorrow.'

Another disturbing note found in a dustbin allegedly mentions an underage girl visiting Epstein's house for 'training'.

One anonymous witness also 'testified that he watched Maxwell direct a room full of underage girls to kiss, dance, and touch one another in a sexual way for [Maxwell] and Epstein to watch', the unsealed documents reveal.

But Ms Maxwell, who is in custody criminally charged with aiding Epstein in his sexual abuse of teenage girls, said during a July 2016 deposition that she learned about his abuse claims 'like everybody else, like the rest of the world, when it was announced in the papers'.

Lawyers for Ms Roberts, now known as Virginia Giuffre, believes the documents are the smoking gun placing Maxwell at the heart of Epstein's child sex ring.

They say: 'It is not just the flight logs showing Defendant [Maxwell] flying with Epstein and Ms. Giuffre over twenty times when she was a minor; it is not just the message pads from law enforcement's trash pulls that show Defendant arranging to have an underage girl come over to Epstein's house for 'training,' it is not just the police report. Now, there is actual, live testimonial evidence that [Maxwell] was a procurer of young girls for sex with Jeffrey Epstein, with whom she shared a home and a life, thus validating Ms. Giuffre's claims'.

Prince Andrew is also mentioned in previously unseen evidence given by Anthony Figueroa, the ex-boyfriend of Virginia Roberts, who claims she was ordered to have sex with the royal three times at Epstein and Maxwell's behest.

Mr Figueroa is asked if he ever heard Virginia talking 'about sex with the Prince', he replied: 'I don't recall talking to them about that, but, I mean, it could be possible'. The lawyer then asked: 'Other than sex with the Prince, is there anyone else that Jeffrey wanted Ms. Roberts to have sex with that she relayed to you?' He replied: 'Just Ms. Maxwell and all the other girls'. Prince Andrew vehemently denies he had sex with her and denies meeting her.

Mr Figueroa also alleged that Virginia was forced into a threesome after 'Jeffrey wanted Virginia to have sex with Ms. Maxwell', who used 'strap-ons and dildos' on her, the bombshell documents allege.

Describing his former lover's sexual encounters, he added: 'Ms. Maxwell and Jeffrey would obviously be doing stuff, all three of them together. Like I said, that they would all go out to clubs to pick up girls and try and find them to bring back for Jeffrey. And then she told me about how, like I said, her and Ms. Maxwell and Jeffrey were all intimate together on multiple occasions'.

Among the trove of court papers was a filing by lawyers for Epstein victim Ms Roberts, now known as Virginia Giuffre, that included redacted witness testimony accusing Maxwell of preying on several victims and forcing them to perform sexual favors.

One witness claimed Maxwell had recruited her from a school campus to have sex with Epstein by initially claiming she was hiring her to be her personal assistant. Johanna Sjoberg, who has previous alleged Prince Andrew abused her with a puppet of himself, said Maxwell also 'punished' her is she failed to make Epstein orgasm.

One of the document reads: 'One witness (redacted) was in tears, as he recounted (Maxwell) bringing a 15-year-old girl into his employer's home who, in utmost distress, told him that (Maxwell) stole the young girl's passport and tried to make her have sex with Epstein and then threatened her'.

But one court document alleges: 'Ample evidence in this case establishes that not only did Defendant [Maxwell] recruit underage girls for massage and sexual activities with Epstein, but that she participated in calling the girls; getting other people to bring girls; talking to the girls; taking massages from and leaving messages about the girls; and scheduling the girls to come over'.

The bombshell documents also revealed:

  • The ex-boyfriend of Virginia Roberts claims that Virginia had threesomes with Epstein and Maxwell with sex toys;
  • Epstein's Florida housekeeper Juan Alessi found sex toys and costumes lying around that belonged in Maxwell's bedroom cupboard;
  • Detective Joseph Recarey told prosecutors that he interviewed over 30 girls abused by Epstein who claimed he would fondle them during massages;
  • Johanna Sjoberg, who has made allegations of sexual misconduct against Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew, claims she was paid $20-an-hour to massage Epstein. She said she was 'expected to perform sexual acts' on Epstein and on one occasion was told off by Maxwell for not 'bringing him to orgasm'.
  • Maxwell gave evidence in 2016 that she had no memory of anything amiss on Jeffrey Epstein's properties in the 2000s despite accusations by dozens of women and girls that they were sexually abused by the financier. She said: 'Like everybody else, like the rest of the world, when it was announced in the papers'.
  • Maxwell also claimed that Virginia Roberts was a 'liar', an 'opioid addict' and had 'cried rape' as a teen;

Maxwell gave evidence in 2016 that she had no memory of anything amiss on Jeffrey Epstein's properties in the 2000s despite accusations by dozens of women and girls that they were sexually abused by the financier.

Maxwell, who is criminally charged with aiding Epstein in his sexual abuse of teenage girls, said during a July 2016 deposition for a defamation lawsuit that she learned about abuse claims 'like everybody else, like the rest of the world, when it was announced in the papers'.

Asked if she tried to find out whether the allegations were accurate, Maxwell was stopped by her lawyer from answering, in a transcript released late on Wednesday along with other documents pursued by the Miami Herald.

But she indicated that she left employment with Epstein because she 'ceased to be happy in the job and I ceased to be happy spending time with Mr Epstein'.

She said he 'became more difficult to work with', according to the transcript. Asked to be more specific, she said: 'Just general. Just doesn't work.'

The filing also included testimony from Rinaldo Rizzo, a butler who worked for hedge fund billionaire Glenn Dubin and his wife, Eva Andersson-Dubin.

Rizzo had said in filings for an unrelated case that Epstein and Maxwell brought a 15-year-old Swedish girl with them when they visited his employers in New York.

Wednesday's unsealed court filings revealed Rizzo was 'in tears' as he recalled how the teen told him Maxwell had taken her passport and tried to 'make her have sex with Epstein.'

Rizzo had previously said he found the girl crying in the kitchen, and heard her describe her alleged treatment at the hands of Maxwell and her assistant, Sarah Kellen, when she was being held at Epstein's property in the US Virgin Islands.

Kellen has denied the allegations claiming that she was herself a victim.

Rizzo claimed the girl told him that Maxwell and Kellen had demanded sex from her and taken away her passport and threatened her when she refused.

The filings come after Maxwell this week asked a judge to dismiss her case ahead of her July 12 trial, citing various grounds including that an agreement not to prosecute Epstein also shielded her.

In court filings on Monday night, lawyers for the British socialite also complained that not enough black and Hispanic grand jurors were used to indict her, and that parts of the indictment were too vague and should be thrown out.

A spokesman for US Attorney Audrey Strauss in Manhattan declined to comment on Tuesday. The office is expected to respond in a few weeks.

Maxwell, 59, is being held in a Brooklyn jail after being denied bail twice following her arrest last July 2 at her New Hampshire home, which prosecutors called a hideout.

She has pleaded not guilty to helping Epstein recruit and groom three girls for sex in Manhattan in the mid-1990s, and lying about it under oath.

Still, Maxwell got a break when the judge in the case ruled that anything relating to 'private intimate conduct' in her deposition should be redacted.

Judge Loretta Preska said that anything in the documents about 'consensual adult behavior' should stay private too.

The 58-year-old British socialite is accused of procuring girls as young as 14 for Epstein to abuse and in some cases taking part in the assaults.

Maxwell is also accused of perjury and has pleaded not guilty.

Epstein's housekeeper 'spent time tidying up sex toys and outfits that belonged in Maxwell's closet while cleaning up after massages'

Juan Alessi, 70, worked for Epstein from 1991 to 2006 first as a maintenance guy on his homes and then the housekeeper and driver in Palm Beach

Juan Alessi, 70, worked for Epstein from 1991 to 2006 first as a maintenance guy on his homes and then the housekeeper and driver in Palm Beach

Jeffrey Epstein's housekeeper found sex toys when he cleaned up after the financier and Ghislaine Maxwell's massages, according to new court documents.

Juan Alessi worked at Epstein's Palm Beach mansion for ten years, during which time he said he saw around 100 'massage therapists' come through the doors.

Describing cleaning the room after the sessions, Alessi told prosecutors: 'I would find things like a dildo, it's called a double. I hate to say it because these ladies. But I find these things, put my gloves on, took it out and rinse it, and put it in Ms. Maxwell's closet.'

He said that the sex toys were kept in Maxwell's room where he also once discovered a 'shiny black costume' in her closet.

Alessi described how Epstein and Maxwell procured the masseuses through friends.

When asked who went out to look for these girls, he replied: 'Ms. Maxwell, Mr. Epstein and their friends, because their friends relayed to other friends they knew a massage therapist and they would send to the house. So it was referrals.'

He testified that some of the therapists were recruited from high-end spas at the exclusive local clubs, including the Breakers, Boca Raton and Mar-a-Lago.

Alessi knew this because he had to call them up to organize appointments and was even in charge of handing out cash after the sessions, sometimes up to $500.

'I used to have to call the Breakers or the Mar-a-Lago or the - all the clubs. There be clubs, even in Boca Raton, the Boca Raton Resort and Hotel. They have a great spa. I had to call these people, Can you come in at 10:00 tonight?'

'Everybody got $100 an hour,' Alessi told the lawyers. 'But I paid more if they were four massages; I would pay $400, $500.'

The housekeeper said he believed 'most' of the girls were over 18.

Billionaire's butler describes 'quivering' girl, 15, who sobbed after telling him she was Epstein's 'sex slave' while 'held hostage on his island', documents claim

A butler who worked for hedge fund billionaire Glenn Dubin and his wife, Dr. Eva Andersson-Dubin (pictured), testified in court that Maxwell once brought a 15-year-old Swedish girl to the Dubins house. The girl allegedly told the butler, Rinaldo Rizzo, that she was a 'sex slave' for Jeffrey Epstein

Andersson-Dubin, a former Miss Sweden, once dated Epstein.

The butler said that the girl reminded him of other girls he saw at Epstein's home. Rizzo said the girl sat in a stool next to a kitchen counter in the Dubins' home. She was 'distraught and shaking...literally quivering' as she described her treatment at the hands of Epstein's alleged madam, and her assistant, Sarah Kellen, in the US Virgin Islands.

He claims he told her that they had demanded sex from her and taken away her passport and threatened her when she refused.

'She proceeded to tell my wife and I… 'I was on the island and there was Ghislaine, and there was Sarah,' and she said, 'They asked me for sex. I said no'.'

Rizzo then said: 'She didn't specify who asked for sex. She said they asked for sex.'

According to Rizzo, after the young girl refused to have sex, Kellen took the young girl's phone and passport and gave them to Maxwell.

'And at that point, she said she was threatened,' Rizzo testified.

'And I said, 'Threatened?'

'She says, 'Yes. I was threatened by Ghislaine, not to discuss this'.'

After Rizzo asked the girl if she spoke to her parents, 'She says, 'I'm not supposed to talk about this'.'

Rizzo testified that the teen told him Epstein threatened her to keep quiet about what she knew.

'The word she used was sex,' he testified.

As far as the girl's emotional state was concerned, Rizzo said that she was 'shaking uncontrollably.'

Rizzo testified that the girl stopped answering questions once she realized that someone was heading toward the kitchen. It was Eva Andersson-Dubin, according to Rizzo.

The Dubins have repeatedly denied these allegations, with a spokesperson for the couple telling DailyMail.com previously: 'Glenn and Eva Dubin are outraged by the allegations against them in the unsealed court records and categorically reject them.'

Jeffrey Epstein victim claims Maxwell said she should be 'grateful' to him before 'punishing' her for not making him 'orgasm', saying: 'I had to finish it myself'

Johanna Sjoberg, who was a college student in Florida in 2001 when she was recruited by Epstein's associate, says that the multimillionaire paedophile told her he needed to have 'three orgasms a day.' She is pictured in 2007

Johanna Sjoberg said that she was recruited by Maxwell in 2001, when she was a student at Palm Beach Atlantic College.

Sjoberg was under the impression she was being hired as a personal assistant, but she soon realized her job was to provide 'sexual massages' to Epstein, who she has said that told her he needed to have 'three orgasms a day.'

She claims she was 'punished' when Epstein failed to orgasm as a result of one of her massages, which Maxwell allegedly told her were necessary because 'she [Maxwell] would not be able to please him as much as he needed and that is why there were other girls around'.

Describing being told off by Ghislaine, the then photography student said: 'She had purchased the camera for me, and I was over there giving Jeffrey a massage. I did not know that she was in possession of the camera until later. She  called me after I had left and said: 'I have the camera for you, but you cannot receive it yet because you came here and didn't finish your job and I had to finish it for you'.

When asked if that meant giving him an orgasm she said: 'Yes. She was implying that I did not get Jeffrey off, and so she had to do it'.

Ms Sjoberg, who has claimed previously that Prince Andrew groped her breasts with a Spitting Image puppet of himself, also claims that Epstein would brag about taking a girl's virginity.

She said in the deposition: 'He told my friend Rachel: 'You see that girl over there laying by the pool?' She was 19. And he said, 'I just took her virginity'. And my friend Rachel was mortified'.

She also describe another victim ... being woken up on a flight by Epstein and immediately tried to perform a sex act on him, believing it was her job.

'He told me one time [the other victim] was 21 sleeping on the plane, and they were getting 22 ready to land. And he went and woke her up... so she started to unzip his pants, and he  said, 'No, no, no, you just have to be awake for [landing]'.

Palm Beach cop who interviewed 30 Epstein victims claims Maxwell helped 'seek girls' who performed sex acts on him in his Florida mansion

Joseph Recarey described how Ghislaine Maxwell ‘was involved in seeking girls to perform massages and work at Epstein’s home’, and that ‘massage’ was a double-entendre for sexual gratification.

Joseph Recarey described how Ghislaine Maxwell 'was involved in seeking girls to perform massages and work at Epstein's home', and that 'massage' was a double-entendre for sexual gratification.

A detective described how Jeffrey Epstein's procurement of underage girls to provide naked 'massages' worked like a sexual abuse pyramid scheme, new court documents have revealed.

Joseph Recarey, who led Palm Beach police department's investigations into Jeffrey Epstein in the mid-2000s, was questioned by federal prosecutors in New York four years ago.

He described how Ghislaine Maxwell 'was involved in seeking girls to perform massages and work at Epstein's home', and that 'massage' was a double-entendre for sexual gratification.

He interviewed around 30 girls who provided massages at Epstein's mansion in Florida, only two had any prior experience, the vast majority were under 18 and others were under 16.

The girls attended on the pretext of a massage – they were sexually abused – and were paid $100, told to find other girls and enticed by stories that they could become Victoria's Secrets models.

'Each of the victims that went to the home were asked to bring their friends to the home. Some complied and some didn't.' The police officer said.

He described Epstein's modus operandi of lying on a massage table and waiting for his victim to be ushered in to start rubbing his back and the backs of his legs.

'Epstein would either attempt to fondle the girls or touch the girls inappropriately, and at which point he would masturbate. And when he was done, he would get up and go wash off while the girls would get dressed and go back downstairs and get paid.' Recarey told prosecutors.

'Some of the victims did not want to be touched; some of the victims did not want to partake in that. So it was - I believe for - for a couple of them it was only a one-shot deal, but others continued to come.'

The detective said Epstein would have multiple massages throughout the day, some took place in the morning, others in the afternoon and a few might take place in the evening.

More pressure on Prince Andrew over Epstein: Ghislaine Maxwell lawsuit claims 'Jeffrey Epstein wanted Virginia Roberts to have sex with Royal' and she told lawyers she 'couldn't remember' trip to London

Prince Andrew is mentioned repeatedly in new Ghislaine Maxwell court filings, with one lawyer claiming Jeffrey Epstein wanted Virginia Roberts to have sex with the royal.

The Duke of York, 60, is mentioned in evidence given by Andrew Figueroa, the ex-boyfriend of Ms Roberts, who claims she was ordered to have sex with Prince Andrew three times at Epstein and Maxwell's behest when she was 17. But the royal strenuously denies the allegations.

The court documents also reveal that Maxwell claimed she could not remember a trip to London where Roberts allegedly slept with Prince Andrew.

The Duke of York and Jeffrey Epstein

1999 - Andrew first meets Epstein, reportedly introduced through his friendship with Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell.

Andrew welcomes Epstein to the Queen's private Scottish retreat in Aberdeenshire. Andrew later says he sees Epstein 'infrequently', adding 'probably no more than only once or twice a year'.

2000 - Andrew and Ms Maxwell are seen on holiday with Epstein at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

Epstein and Ms Maxwell attend a party at Windsor Castle hosted by the Queen to mark Andrew's 40th birthday, the Princess Royal's 50th, the Queen Mother's 100th and Princess Margaret's 70th.

2001 - Virginia Roberts claims to have had sex with Andrew 'three times, including one orgy', with the first encounter allegedly taking place in Ms Maxwell's London townhouse. Ms Roberts claims to have had sex with Andrew on two more occasions, at Epstein's New York home and at an 'orgy' on his private island in the Caribbean.

2008 - Epstein admits prostituting minors and is sentenced to 18 months in prison.

2010 - Epstein is released from jail. Andrew is photographed with the disgraced Epstein in New York's Central Park.

Footage emerges years later, reportedly shot on December 6 2010, showing him inside Epstein's Manhattan mansion, from where he is seen looking out from a large door.

2011 - The duke quits his role as UK trade envoy after the fallout from the Central Park photos.

2015 - Buckingham Palace denies Andrew has committed any impropriety after he is named in US court documents related to Epstein. A woman, later named in reports as Ms Roberts, alleges in papers filed in Florida that she was forced to have sex with Andrew when she was 17, which is under the age of consent in the state.

In April the claims against Andrew are struck from US civil court records following a federal judge's ruling.

2019  - Epstein is found dead in his jail cell on August 10, having killed himself after being charged with sex trafficking.

Mr Figueroa was asked in 2016 if he ever heard Virginia talking about 'sex with the Prince,' he replied: 'I don't recall talking to them about that, but, I mean, it could be possible.'

The lawyer then asked: 'Other than sex with the Prince, is there anyone else that Jeffrey wanted Ms Roberts to have sex with that she relayed to you?'

He replied: 'Just Ms. Maxwell and all the other girls'.

Dozens of documents relating to Maxwell's second deposition were publicly released in the US last night, that includes new details about her sex life and how she allegedly procured young girls for the paedophile.

They reveal the British socialite gave evidence in 2016 that she had no memory of anything amiss on Jeffrey Epstein's properties in the 2000s, despite accusations from dozens of women and girls that they were sexually abused by the financier.

The latest court documents has put more pressure on Prince Andrew, who has faced criticism at his refusal to speak to US authorities investigating the crimes of his paedophile former friend Epstain - despite promising more than a year ago to co-operate.

He was branded as 'outrageous' by Lisa Bloom, the lawyer representing six victims of the dead disgraced financier, who killed himself in prison in 2019.

Bloom in November last year called on the royal to submit to an interview with the FBI as they investigated another of the Royal's friends socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who is accused of procuring teenage girls for Epstein to abuse.

She said at the time: 'How outrageous that it's been a year since Prince Andrew publicly promised to co-operate with law enforcement investigating all those who enabled Jeffrey Epstein's sexual assaults on hundreds of women and girls.

'He simply has not kept that promise. Meanwhile, the six victims I represent struggle to repair their lives.

'We implore Prince Andrew to submit to an interview with the FBI investigation of Ghislaine Maxwell and other accused co-conspirators, to tell what he knows, to turn over documents and evidence, and to instruct his staff to do so as well.

'It is never too late to do the right thing.'

Andrew - the Queen's second son - stepped down from public life on November 20 2019, following the fallout from his disastrous Newsnight interview about his friendship with convicted sex offender Epstein.

The duke was criticised for showing a lack of empathy towards the paedophile's victims and a lack of remorse over his friendship with the pervert.

Ms Bloom made her intervention on the first anniversary of the duke quitting royal duties.

In the Newsnight interview with the BBC's Emily Maitlis, the duke denied claims that he slept with Virginia Giuffre, who says she was trafficked by Epstein, on three separate occasions, including when she was 17, still a minor under US law.

The duke, in a statement released on his parents' wedding anniversary in 2019, said that the Queen had given her permission for him to bow out of royal duties for the 'foreseeable future'.

He said: 'The circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family's work.'

Andrew added he continued to 'unequivocally regret my ill-judged association' with Epstein and pledged to help 'any appropriate law enforcement agency'.

More than a year on from withdrawing from his public role, the duke is widely expected never to return to royal duties.

He has faced a war of words between his camp and American authorities over his availability to answer questions about Epstein.

Andrew was accused of attempting to 'falsely portray himself to the public as eager and willing to co-operate' by US attorney Geoffrey Berman, who was leading the investigation into Epstein.

But the duke's legal team said he had made three offers to give a witness statement.

Calls for him to speak to the authorities were renewed after Maxwell appeared in court in the US accused of facilitating Epstein's sexual exploitation of underage girls. Her trial is set for July this year.

QAnon disrupted Ghislaine Maxwell case as her $28.5m bail package backfires after a judge said it 'only solidifies' the risk of her fleeing

Earlier this month, a hearing for Maxwell at federal court in New York was temporarily disrupted by QAnon conspiracy theorists who were livestreaming the dial-in audio hearing on YouTube.

The phone line to listen in had already hit 500 people by the time the stream posted by a YouTube personality went up and attracted 14,000 viewers.

Judge Preska ordered him to stop and said he was 'operating against the law' and the stream went down a few minutes later.

Maxwell's case has become an obsession for conspiracy theorists who believe the world is controlled by a group of pedophile Democrats and Hollywood stars.

The deposition was taken in July 2016 in a defamation case brought against Maxwell by Virginia Roberts Giuffre that led to her perjury charges.

Giuffre claims that Maxwell recruited her and that she and Epstein loaned her out to Britain's Prince Andrew for sex three times, claims which the Prince vehemently denies.

In her ruling Judge Preska rejected claims from Maxwell's lawyers that unsealing this set of documents would cause a 'media frenzy'. Nor would it jeopardize her right to a fair trial as Maxwell had claimed.

Judge Preska said that in a previously unsealed deposition from Maxwell, which she submitted to in April 2016, Maxwell did not answer when asked about her sex life.

But in her July 2016 deposition she did answer such questions and so was entitled to privacy. The judge said: 'Public access to certain parts of the transcript is outweighed by Ms. Maxwell's countervailing interests in resisting disclosure of the details of her private, intimate relationships with consenting adults.

Judge Alison Nathan said the vast sum, including $22.5m from Maxwell and her husband, was so much higher than the $3.5m she claimed to be worth after her arrest in July that it was suspicious.

Judge Alison Nathan said the vast sum, including $22.5m from Maxwell and her husband, was so much higher than the $3.5m she claimed to be worth after her arrest in July that it was suspicious.

'This testimony is, in any case, far afield from the sex trafficking and sexual abuse allegations that were central to the dispute in (the defamation case).

'Although the prurient interest of some may be left unsatiated as a result, Ms. Maxwell's interest in keeping private the details of her sexual relationships with consenting adults warrants the sealing of those portions of her testimony and any materials that reference them'.

Referring to one document the judge said: 'Objections to questions nine, 10 and 11 will remain sealed because it relates to Miss Maxwell's intimate conduct. Material on pages 17 to 19 shall remain sealed, same reason.

On another document Judge Preska said: 'In the introduction, the sentence beginning 'Miss Maxwell never admitted' shall remain sealed. It relates to private intimate conduct. Pages 1-2, the material relating to Miss Maxwell's adult conduct shall remain sealed'.

In the same document, Judge Preska said one sentence with 'material relating to adult consensual behavior should be redacted'.

The names and testimony of people who did not object to their identities being made public will be unsealed in the next batch of documents, as will all references to Alan Dershowtiz, the lawyer who has represented Epstein.

Giuffre claims she was forced to have sex with Dershowitz too, claims he strongly denis.

Judge Preska initially wanted the documents unsealed by Tuesday next week but Maxwell's lawyers asked for another day because they have a deadline to file court documents in her criminal case on Monday, and the judge agreed.

The April 2016 deposition which has already been made public ran to 418 pages and Maxwell fought tooth and nail to keep it private.

Over seven hours Maxwell was questioned about everything from her sex life to her relationship with Andrew and Epstein.

Maxwell was defiant, dismissive and refused to answer some questions 20 times.

At one point she denied keeping a 'laundry basket of sex toys' at Epstein's mansion in Palm Beach, Florida.

Maxwell was asked about having three-way sexual massages with Epstein and his sexual 'idiosyncrasies' such as nipple pinching.

When asked if she ever provided Guiffre with 'schoolgirl outfits' for her to wear with a massage Maxwell responded: 'I have no idea what you are talking about'.

Maxwell did admit that in 2015 she and Prince Andrew talked on the phone about allegations made by Giuffre.

Andrew said of Giuffre that 'everything she said is a lie', according to Maxwell.

Judge Nathan wrote that Maxwell was guilty of 'misdirection' to the court by failing to disclose her true worth the first time around

Elsewhere in the deposition Maxwell called Giuffre an 'awful fantasist' and at one point she became so angry she banged her hand on the table.

Maxwell's attempt to get free from jail on a $28.5m bail package backfired spectacularly after a judge said it 'only solidifies' the risk of her fleeing.

Judge Alison Nathan said the vast sum, including $22.5m from Maxwell and her husband, was so much higher than the $3.5m she claimed to be worth after her arrest in July that it was suspicious.

Judge Nathan wrote that Maxwell was guilty of 'misdirection' to the court by failing to disclose her true worth the first time around.

Maxwell's 'lack of candor is, if anything, stronger now than in July' and her representations back then were 'woefully incomplete', the judge said.

The scathing assessment was part of a 22-page filing to federal court in New York which set out Judge Nathan's reasons for denying Maxwell bail for a second time.

The ruling means that Maxwell will remain in the grim Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until at least July next year when her trial is due to take place.

Maxwell, 58, has been held there since July when she was arrested for allegedly procuring girls as young as 14 for Jeffrey Epstein to abuse.

The British socialite is also accused of perjuring herself in a civil case and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Maxwell's second bail application had included more than a dozen letters from family and friends in support.

The $22.5m in cash and assets from her and husband Scott Borgerson, 44, a tech entrepreneur, was on top of $5m in property from her family and a $1m bond from a private security company.

But in the filing Judge Nathan said that Maxwell's new bail application showed she had 'extraordinary financial resources' she could use to 'flee the country undetected'.

The judge wrote: 'The new information provided in the renewed application only solidifies the court's view that the defendant plainly poses a risk of flight and that no combination of conditions can ensure her appearance'.

Judge Nathan said that Maxwell 'providing incomplete or erroneous information to the court or pretrial services' was a 'significant' factor in her decision.

After her arrest in July Maxwell claimed she had no access to her financial records and was piecing her assets together from memory.

But Judge Nathan said that the difference between $3.5m and $22.5m was so big that Maxwell's explanation stretched credibility.

The judge wrote: 'Even if the defendant was unable to provide an exact number, however, the difference between the number she originally reported to pretrial services and the number now presented to the court makes it unlikely that the misrepresentation was the result of the defendant's mis-estimation rather than misdirection.

'In sum, the evidence of a lack of candor is, if anything, stronger now than in July 2020, as it is clear to the court that the defendant's representations to pretrial services were woefully incomplete.

'That lack of candor raises significant concerns as to whether the court has now been provided a full and accurate picture of her finances and as to the defendant's willingness to abide by any set of conditions of release'.

Judge Nathan noted that Maxwell had leaned heavily on a letter from Mr Borgerson - who she acknowledged as her husband for the first time in the bail application - saying that she would never leave the US and abandon him.

Borgerson wrote that Maxwell was a 'wonderful and loving' person and he believed in her innocence.

Judge Nathan wrote: 'The defendant now argues that her newly revealed relationship with her spouse signals her deep effective ties in the country, but at the time she was arrested, she was not living with him and claimed to be getting divorced.

'Indeed, she does not propose to live with him were she to be released on bail, undercutting her argument that that relationship would create an insurmountable burden to her fleeing'.

Elsewhere in the ruling Judge Nathan said that, contrary to Maxwell's claims, the case against her remained 'strong'.

The allegations from the three accusers would be backed up by flight records and other witnesses' corroborating testimony, the judge said.

JEFFREY EPSTEIN'S UNDOING: A TIMELINE OF THE MILLIONAIRE PEDOPHILE'S DOWNFALL

1999 - Virginia Roberts Giuffre is allegedly recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell to became Epstein's 'sex slave,' at 17. She also claimed that he forced her to have sex with his friend Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth.

2002 - Trump tells New York Magazine that his friend Epstein 'likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.'

2005 - A 14-year-old girl tells police that Epstein molested her at his Palm Beach mansion.

May 2006 - Epstein and two of his associates are charged with multiple counts of unlawful sex acts with a minor. State attorney of the time Barry Krischer, referred the case to a grand jury who heard from just two of the 12 girls law enforcement had gathered as potential witnesses. They returned just one single count of soliciting prostitution.

July 2006 - The case is referred to the FBI by the Florida Palm Beach police who were unhappy with how the case was handled.

2007 - Epstein's lawyers meet with Miami's top federal prosecutor Alexander Acosta, who would later become the Secretary of Labor in the Trump administration. They secretly negotiate the 'deal of a lifetime'.

June 2008 - After pleading guilty to two prostitution charges, the millionaire was sentenced to 18 months in a low-security prison in exchange for prosecutors ending their investigation into his sex acts with minors and give him immunity from future prosecution related to those charges. In reality, Epstein was able to work from his office six days a week while supposedly incarcerated at the jail.

July 2008 - Accusers learned of the deal for the first time.

July 2009 - Epstein is released from jail five months early.

July 2018 - The Miami Herald publishes investigative journalist Julie K. Brown's exposé on Epstein's long history of alleged sexual abuse and news of the 'deal of a lifetime' after Acosta was made Labor Secretary.

February 2019 - The justice department opens an internal review into Epstein's plea deal.

July 7, 2019 - Epstein is arrested after his private jet lands at New Jersey's Teterboro Airport from Paris. At the same time, federal agents break into his Manhattan townhouse where they uncovered hundreds of photographs of naked minors.

July 8, 2019 - Epstein is charged with sex trafficking charges which detail how he created a network of underage girls in Florida and New York, paying girls as young as 14 to provide 'massages and sex acts.' The charges carry a sentence of up to 45 years in prison.

July 11, 2019 - More than a dozen women, not previously known to law enforcement, came forward to accuse him of sex abuse.

July 24 - Epstein was found unconscious in his cell after an apparent suicide attempt. He was moved to suicide watch at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

August 9, 2019 - More than 2,000 documents are unsealed which reveal the lurid allegations against Epstein in detail.

August 10, 2019 - Epstein is found dead in his cell.

The British socialite and friend of Prince Andrew who became Jeffrey Epstein's alleged madam: How press baron's daughter Ghislaine Maxwell went from impeccably connected party girl to fugitive accused of luring girls into paedophile billionaire's bed

Ghislaine Maxwell, daughter of disgraced press baron Robert, is the person who knew Jeffrey Epstein and his secrets best.

A socialite who once revelled in her connections with the rich and famous, she has now been found and arrested in New Hampshire having been virtually invisible since the autumn of 2016 - having only been spotted once at a burger restaurant in California last year.

The 58-year-old, who has been accused of being a 'madam' and 'fixer' for Epstein, will now be hauled to court to tell all she knows about her relationship with the billionaire paedophile before he killed himself awaiting trial for sex crimes in August last year.

Maxwell has previously been accused of recruiting and 'training' underage girls for Epstein - her benefactor and sometime boyfriend - to abuse, while often joining in the abuse herself.

The pair went everywhere together, moving through high-class circles that included the likes of Prince Andrew, Donald Trump, and Bill Clinton, and is said to have been the one person Epstein treated as an equal.

Virginia Roberts, Epstein's most prominent accuser, says it was Ghislaine who first approached her about working for him as a 'traveling masseuse' while she was taking a break during a shift at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in 1999.

She says Ghislaine participated in the first time Epstein sexually abused her, and was in charge of managing several girls he routinely assaulted - referring to herself as a 'mother hen'.

Ghislaine Maxwell was known as Jeffrey Epstein's closest confidante. The pair dated for a time in the 1990s before settling into a 'close friendship' that his accusers say included her recruiting young girls for him to abuse, and sometimes joining in (pictured, Ghislaine and Epstein, right, with Donald Trump and Melania at Mar-a-Lago in 2000)

Ghislaine was a wealthy socialite, moving in elite circles until she virtually disappeared from public view in 2016 after Virginia Roberts - Epstein's main accuser - filed a lawsuit against her (pictured, Epstein and Ghislaine in New York in 2015)

Roberts says it was Ghislaine who introduced her to Prince Andrew at Tramp nightclub the evening they allegedly had sex and told her what to do with the prince. She also appears in the infamous photo of the two together, which was taken inside Maxwell's London townhouse.

Born of a tyrannical, dishonest but charming father whom she never deserted, Ghislaine was inevitably going to stand by her man Jeffrey Epstein, even when he killed himself awaiting another child sex trial but her silence will be tested by the FBI.

And her arrest will certainly shake Prince Andrew, a friend of 20 years or more, and raise concerns at Buckingham Palace that a fresh storm is heading their way.

She was said to be 'madly in love' with Epstein following their meeting shortly after Maxwell died after falling off his yacht, but the paedophile who killed himself last year is said to have shunned marriage with her because he wanted to sleep with other women.

Alternately described by his associates as his 'main girlfriend' and 'closest friend', the nature of their relationship is perhaps best surmised in allegations that Epstein kept a 9ft nude painting of Maxwell, legs spread, at his New Mexico 'baby-making ranch'.

For years she followed Epstein between his mansions in the US and the US Virgin Islands was his frequent travel companion on trips around the world, where he procured girls for himself and his famous friends.

He allegedly did this with the help of his ever-loyal friend Ghislaine, according to Virginia Roberts, who claims she was made Epstein's 'sex slave' and forced to sleep with Prince Andrew three times when she was 17.

Maxwell operated as part-girlfriend, part-employee, orchestrating Epstein's social life. Epstein supported Maxwell and helped her remain in the social position she had grown accustom to from her upbringing.

She has even been described as the 'madam of the house' by a former housekeeper at Epstein's mansion in Palm Beach, Florida. Hitherto, she has always emphatically denied misconduct.

'She inherited her father's slightly bombastic charisma, and is one of those people who successfully trades on the fact that she knows lots of other fancy people, including Clintons, Kennedys and various royals,' said one acquaintance.

Describing her own meeting with Ghislaine in a New York bar in the Eighties, Petronella Wyatt described how she had 'an intense sexuality' and gave her a very public lesson in the art of oral sex.

Writer Christina Oxenberg recalled that, during another meeting, she greeted guests wearing nothing more than her underwear, fanned herself with a copy of Vogue, and 'threw' her Yorkshire Terrier puppy across the room

In 1991, Robert Maxwell drowned in mysterious circumstances after falling off his yacht named the Lady Ghislaine - and it was his death that led to her meeting Epstein later that year as she fled to America to avoid scrutiny in her native Britain.

Soon after the newspaper tycoon's dearth Ghislaine caused outrage by being photographed boarding Concorde while at the same time publicly speaking of her financial struggle — her father, she lamented, had left her only an annual £80,000 trust fund to live off.

Increasingly, she was seen to be resolutely unsympathetic to Maxwell's victims and, astonishingly, sought to defend her father's behaviour even after it became clear he had defrauded so many of his employees.

Before long, there was the inevitable speculation that she was living off stolen money and Ghislaine was said to have taken to wearing a disguise in Britain to avoid recognition.

But it was a different story in America, where Ghislaine found she could do as she pleased — and over the years she has taken full advantage of this attitude.

Ghislaine managed to manoeuvre herself into the very heart of New York's business and Hollywood elite.  And she did it with the American billionaire financier friend Jeffrey Epstein.

Epstein took Ghislaine under his wing when she arrived in New York a broken and lonely woman and helped her not only back on to her feet but also to become one of the most sought-after members of the city's social elite.

She was instantly attracted to him — a man as flamboyant, dominant and rich as the father she had just lost.

In no time, she was appearing at Epstein's side as the 'celebrity' guest at the opening of a glamorous Manhattan restaurant. She was also a regular guest at his Upper East Side apartment. Very soon, a friend reported that 'her dependence [on Epstein] is pretty total'.

At one time, there were even rumours they would marry, but they never did and she saw him has a father figure to replace the one she had lost.

Robert Maxwell biographer Tom Bower said she 'worshiped rich, domineering men'

'Ghislaine floated in and out of the house with the keys, and even though Jeffrey told me they didn't have a sexual relationship, she'd drop under her breath that she was sleeping in his bed from time to time' one Epstein ex-girlfriend told Vanity Fair.

The pair partied with Donald Trump and Melania at Mar-A-Lago and threw lavish dinners at Epstein's Upper East Side townhouse, attended by Woody Allen, Katie Couric, Chelsea Handler, David Blaine and Google co-founder Sergey Brin, among others.

The jet-setting financier also hobnobbed with Trump allies Wilbur Ross, Steve Mnuchin and Rudy Giuliani at a Hamptons film screening in 2010, just two months after his release from prison in Florida.

Epstein had bragged to a New York Times columnist about having 'dirt' on his rich and powerful associates - and rumours of a black book of secrets on all of them - and Ms Maxwell was said to be intrinsically involved

In 2008, Epstein was offered a secret deal to avoid federal prosecution and pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting an underage girl for sex.

As part of that deal, federal prosecutors agreed not to charge 'any potential co-conspirators of Epstein'.

He served 13 months in county jail in Palm Beach, Florida and registered as a sex offender. During his sentence, he was allowed to work from his office most days.

The deal was cut by Alex Acosta, then U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. He resigned from his current role as Trump's Secretary of Labor in the fallout from the Epstein case.

On July 6 2019, FBI investigators broke down the doors of Epstein's $77 million New York home after he was arrested on his private jet at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey following a flight from Paris.

A search of Epstein's home turned up hundreds of pictures of nude women, some of them minors, along with cash, diamonds, valuable art and an expired Austrian passport with Epstein's face but someone else's name, claiming Saudi Arabia as place of residence, according Geoffrey Berman, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.

The photos, which were bizarrely staged, circulated but then she went underground

Maxwell has not been seen since last August when she was photographed at an In-N-Out Burger in Los Angeles, ten days after Epstein's suicide

Maxwell is alleged to be one of the main players in a network of recruiters and enablers who provided Epstein with those underage girls to sexually abuse before he took his life in a New York prison cell last year.

Ghislaine is Maxwell's youngest child. She attended the boarding school Marlborough College in Wiltshire, England, a favorite of the British elite, and went on to study at Oxford University.

In her twenties, she was a well-known face on London's social scene and founded the Kit Kat Club, an alternative to the old-school-tie network for high-powered women.

She worked for her father's newspaper, The European, and as the director of Oxford United Football Club while her father was owner.

The first report of their friendship was a footnote in a newspaper diary column from early 1999. 'Prince Andrew keeps interesting company these days,' it began. 'He's just attended a dinner hosted by Ghislaine Maxwell.'

By April 2000 Ghislaine and Andrew were spotted sharing one of several intimate lunch dates together. They sat hand in hand while dining on lobster salad – she sipped a champagne cocktail – at Nello restaurant on New York's Madison Avenue.

His police bodyguard watched discreetly and fell in step behind Andrew once he had paid the £90 bill in cash. Miss Maxwell left separately in order to avoid the paparazzi.

But, she and the Duke of York were not in a romantic relationship. Indeed, as his new found confidante and social fixer she was far, far more important to him than that.

Former friends and acquaintances spoke of Miss Maxwell's enigmatic personality and the similarities between her relationships with her fraudster father and Epstein. At Marlborough public school and later at Oxford she was a member of a powerful clique. 'She was her Daddy's girl,' recalls one school contemporary. 'But you could not quite work out what made her tick.'

After her father's death when the extent of his corruption was exposed, Miss Maxwell retreated to America where 'she grew a second skin and an icy resolve', says a friend. There she met Epstein, eight years her senior, whose fabulous wealth was mirrored by the obscurity of its origins and current business dealings.

'The moment you saw them together you could see Epstein was her father substitute,' says one friend. 'A powerful older man. A second Robert Maxwell.'

Together they partied with the Kennedys and the Clintons and Ghislaine boasted that she was particularly close to President Bill.

In February 2000, Andrew and Miss Maxwell flew from New York to Florida on a private jet belonging to one Donald Trump. They stayed at the future president's resort, Mar-a-Lago. The prince danced the night away at a club, flirting with a number of women and buying a £300 bottle of champagne. Then he flew back to New York with Miss Maxwell, where they attended a Ralph Lauren fashion show.

Soon it was time for Andrew to repay their hospitality. In June 2000, both Epstein and Miss Maxwell were among guests at a lavish party at Windsor Castle hosted by the Queen. The Dance of the Decades was to mark Andrew's recent 40th birthday, Princess Anne's 50th and Princess Margaret's impending 70th, as well as Prince William's 18th.

Months later, Miss Maxwell and the prince attended a very different calibre of event in Manhattan that autumn – a 'hookers and bondage' party for which Ghislaine dressed as a streetwalker. The prince simply looked dishevelled in a suit.

The closeness of the relationship was confirmed when, in December, Andrew threw a 'surprise' 40th birthday party for Miss Maxwell at Sandringham. Epstein was in attendance. Within a matter of months he and Miss Maxwell appeared to have become the prince's closest friends. It was a catastrophic error of judgment.

His ex-wife and the palace were by then voicing concerns which grew when Andrew left the Royal Family's Christmas gathering at Sandringham to join Miss Maxwell and Epstein in Phuket, Thailand, for New Year. There he was photographed sunbathing on a luxury yacht surrounded by topless young women.

How far Ghislaine Maxwell was prepared to go to help Epstein, the man who bankrolled her fabulous lifestyle, is now a criminal matter.

One of seven children, they all struggled to escape their father's dark legacy.

In a rare interview some years ago, Ghislaine's sister Christine gave a fascinating insight into what it was like to have been one of Maxwell's children. She told of the ritual humiliation he visited on his children at Sunday lunch, which was 'torture'. 'He was dreadful to us, in front of friends, boyfriends — it was unbearable. Everything was black and white for him: you were with him or against him.'

It emerged that his newspaper empire was built on the proceeds of epic criminality, which had seen him defraud its pension fund of almost half a billion pounds.

Vilified in the UK, where Robert Maxwell's victims were angered by the lavish lifestyle his family had enjoyed at their expense, his youngest daughter relocated to New York, where she took up residence in a small apartment, and set about re-inventing herself.

Now Maxwell has been taken into custody, said FBI spokesman Marty Feely.

An indictment made public on Thursday said Maxwell facilitated Epstein's crimes by 'helping Epstein to recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse' girls as young as 14. It also said she participated in the sexual abuse.

Epstein killed himself in a federal detention centre in New York last summer while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell was accused by many women of recruiting them to give Epstein massages, during which they were pressured into sex.

The indictment included counts of conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and two counts of perjury.

Maxwell has previously repeatedly denied wrongdoing and called some of the claims against her 'absolute rubbish'.

Among the most sensational accusations was a claim by one Epstein victim, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, that Maxwell arranged for her to have sex with the Duke of York at her London townhouse.

Andrew denied her story.

From an Oxford scientist who fled to Argentina to the twins who made the Sunday Times Rich List...  What became of Robert Maxwell's nine children?

Robert Maxwell was a ruthless bully who rose from impoverished beginnings in Czechoslovakia to become a multi-millionaire publisher living a life of luxury — funded by £460 million stolen from the Mirror Group pension pot.

His youngest daughter Ghislaine - who ran away from the family business following her father's death - has been arrested in the wake of the death of her ex-lover and mentor, the paedophile and alleged sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

But what of the other Maxwell siblings? Here, the Mail looks at the other eight children, from the brilliant scientist brother who fled to Argentina to the youngest boys who attempted to steer the father's business away from peril.

Robert and Betty Maxwell's first-born fell into a coma aged 15 after a car crash in 1961 and died eight years later, never having regained consciousness.

'Poor Philip', as his friends always knew him, was a brilliant scientist and mathematician who won a scholarship to Balliol College, Oxford, aged just 16.

But he so loathed his domineering father that, as soon as he could, Philip fled to Argentina to get 'as far away from [him] as possible'.

The pair fell out irretrievably when he married Nilda, an Argentine, in 1977, against Robert's wishes.

The marriage didn't last — Nilda moved out taking their daughter Marcella with her and a second marriage also failed.

Philip was last heard of living in a £65-a-week flat in North London trying to be a writer. The subject? His bullying father.

Anne, 69, ex-actress called 'ugly' by her father

When her fledgling acting career floundered, her father's reaction was: 'What have you and Pope John Paul II got in common? You're both ugly and you're both failed actors.'

Having studied Italian and French at Oxford, she then trained as a Montessori teacher, married an osteopath and is now believed to be a hypnotherapist in Surrey, practising under another name.

She has kept out of the limelight since her father's death at the age of 68.

He was found floating in the Atlantic off the Canary Islands after he went missing in 1991 off his private yacht, named Lady Ghislaine after his youngest daughter.

Christine and her twin sister Isabel made The Sunday Times Rich List in 1999 after amassing their £100 million in the dotcom boom.

She is the author of The Dictionary Of Perfect Spelling (a book with 20,000 words aimed at secondary school pupils) and is married to a Roger Malina, an astrophysicist at a French university.

They have two sons and a daughter and split their time between a Spanish-style mansion overlooking San Francisco and Aix-en-Provence in the South of France.

In a rare interview in 1998 about her then role on the Internet Society Board Of Trustees (which works 'for an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy internet for everyone'), she spoke of the years spent in her father's publishing business:

'Both of my parents had a strong work ethic, which they instilled in me and my brothers and sisters when we were very young.

They also communicated a very clear understanding that advantages always come with responsibilities — that there was no such thing as a free ride.'

Isabel, 69, the second twin

Once described in The Jerusalem Post as 'a fireball' who is 'always in your face', Isabel was always the Maxwell to watch.

She never wanted to join the family firm, so after graduating from Oxford with a degree in modern languages, followed by a masters from Edinburgh, she became a TV reporter.

In 1981, she moved to California to work in TV before making a film set in 1968 starring rock singer Neil Young. 'It wasn't ET,' she said, '. . . more a labour of love.'

But technology was her future. She and twin Christine co-founded one of the earliest internet search engines, known as Magellan, in 1992.

In 1996, they sold it for shares in a rival company Excite — which rocketed in value, giving the sisters their joint £100 million fortune, before dipping again.

But despite being worth an estimated £50 million in the 1990s, she was declared bankrupt in 2015.

She was married twice. Her first husband was U.S. film-maker Dale Djerassi, with whom she has a son, and then she wed Magellan co-founder David Hayden.

Her third 'husband', illusionist Al Seckel, was once a significant player in the Californian literary, academic and celebrity scene. He was famous for holding parties for the great and good. Jeffrey Epstein was a friend.

In 2009, the two men organised a science conference called Mindshift on Epstein's private island Little Saint James.

Isabel and Seckel 'married' in Malibu in 2007 but their union was never legal as he had forgotten to file the papers to annul the second of three previous marriages (to Denice Lewis, a former model who appeared in music videos for Bryan Ferry, Elton John and Cliff Richard. Similarly, Seckel had forgotten to repay countless debts over the years that resulted in endless legal proceedings.

One law suit, brought by Ensign Consulting Ltd, a firm based in the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, accused both him and Isabel of perpetrating a fraud involving 'the purchase of antique rare books and a portrait of Sir Isaac Newton painted in 1689'.

In 2015, Seckel was found dead below a cliff near their home in the village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie in France's Lot Valley. Isabel still lives in the south of France.

In the aftermath, of their father's death, Ian, then 35, and Kevin, 32, assumed control of the company and stood trial for their part in their father's £460 million pension fraud.

They were acquitted, but the Maxwell name was mud for years and business opportunities were limited to overseas ventures. Ian's first wife was an American former college basketball star and model called Laura Marie Plumb.

They met when she moved to London to help set up a TV cable company. The couple married in 1991 — the year of Robert Maxwell's death — and the ensuing media attention put Laura under great strain. On the day that Ian and Kevin were arrested, she was photographed sobbing. The couple divorced in 1996.

Next, he married Tara Dudley Smith, the daughter of a Jockey Club steward and ex-Army officer. But that relationship also ended. He found happiness with Cecilia French, 58, director of public protection at the Home Office.

Recently, after pursuing business opportunities in property, energy and telecoms, mostly outside the UK, Ian and Kevin said they'd felt the urge to do something for the greater good.

So three years ago, in the middle of the Greek financial crisis, they launched an organisation similar to the Prince's Trust in Greece which has raised millions of euros and helped to launch several hundred businesses.

Kevin, 61, Britain's biggest ever bankrupt

The cleverest son and driving force of the family, Kevin was crestfallen by his father's death, saying that he 'missed his presence and ability to dominate'. He admitted to being totally in awe of him.

The only Maxwell sibling ever to express remorse in public for the fallout from Robert Maxwell's crimes, Kevin made reference to the 'moral burden I will bear for the rest of my life'.

His first wife, Pandora Warnford-Davis called her father-in-law Robert the 'fat fraudster'.

When, in June 1992, Kevin was arrested and charged with fraud after hundreds of millions disappeared from the Maxwell empire's employee pension funds, she appeared at the window of their home at dawn and shouted: 'P*** off, or I'll call the police!' only to realise the early morning callers were the police.

In 2007, they divorced after 23 years and seven children together. Pandora was last heard of living in Oxford, renting out a room through Airbnb.

Soon after his arrest, Kevin became Britain's biggest ever bankrupt when a £407 million bankruptcy order was made against him.

The bankruptcy was discharged in 1995, following the mandatory three years. And, after an Old Bailey trial that cost taxpayers £12 million in legal aid, he was acquitted of fraud a year later — even though a subsequent Whitehall report concluded Kevin bore a 'heavy responsibility' for what happened.

In 1998, he went on to co-found media company Telemonde, a U.S.-based commercial vehicle for what he hoped would be 'the Maxwell comeback story'. It was not to be. When Telemonde floated in 1999, Kevin looked on course to becoming a multi-millionaire; on paper he owned a seven per cent stake, worth £16 million.

But by 2001, the company had debts of more than £100 million and failed. Kevin then moved into high end commercial property.

His venture came tumbling down in 2011 when he was disqualified from being a director for eight years. The same year, Vincent and Robert Tchenguiz, two tycoons he shared an office with, were arrested by the Serious Fraud Office. Today, he is working again with Ian in their Greek charitable venture.

Robert Maxwell once said: 'The thing I'd most like to see invented is a way of teaching children and grown-ups the difference between right and wrong.' Considering how some of his own turned out, it was perhaps the most prescient thing the old rogue ever said.
